The reigning European champions Tina Graudina and Anastasija Kravcenoka from Latvia will not be able to defend their title at the upcoming Beach Volleyball European Championship in Jurmala. According to the Latvian Volleyball Association, Graudina has tested positive for the corona virus. The Latvian is therefore not allowed to take part in the home title fights taking place from September 15th to 20th.
The association announced this on Friday evening. The tests by Kravcenoka and trainer Andris Krumins were negative, according to the association. However, because they are considered to be Graudina’s direct contact persons, both have to go into self-isolation for 14 days, monitor their health and have the test repeated. This means that the two local heroes no longer have a chance to repeat their 2019 success in Moscow.
Borger / Sude won’t participate
The beach volleyball duo Karla Borger and Julia Sude decided on the sidelines of the German championships in Timmendorfer Strand to cancel their participation in the EM in Latvia. They announced this in a press release on Monday. Too many imponderables regarding the arrival and departure as well as the implementation of the tournament itself in times of the corona pandemic would have led them to cancel. Instead, the german team Behrens / Tillmann will take part of EuroVolley.
